If you haven’t been keeping up with food news, kale has hit the grocery market and it’s not showing any signs of leaving. A slightly bitter green in the same family as broccoli and cabbage, kale can be delicious in a variety of ways, just like other greens, such as mustard greens, turnip greens, and spinach. So, how do you use it? Here are our favorite ways.

Raw and Crunchy. Kale, in its natural state, is crunchy and slightly bitter. While most people don’t just eat it like a carrot, this would be an option! However, a more popular way to prepare this health powerhouse is to chop it up and add it to a salad. We like it mixed with other greens, herbs, and fruits for a hearty side, or add some beans, fish, or meat to make it a meal.

Sautéed. If you’re a fan of warmed vegetables, this one is for you! Simply chop your kale (or other greens) into bite-sized pieces, add a little olive oil to the pan, and cook for about five minutes, or until done. Make sure to add some spices for flavor—garlic, red pepper flakes, onion, and curry powder all add great flavor to kale.

Soup. Greens mix perfectly into a variety of soups! Consider adding it to vegetable soups where its robust flavor will shine, or add it to a creamy soup for a healthy and refreshing change.

Drink it. Juicing is all the rage, and what’s healthier than a green smoothie? Simply run kale through your juicer or toss it in the blender with the rest of your fruits and vegetables.

The color is intense, but the flavor is delicious.
